Getting better every day…

Posted in Zeke Updates on July 28, 2010 by triplett

Today is 16 days since Zeke’s surgery and he is doing well.  They decided not to remove the stitches yet and there is an area of the incision that is being stubborn, but other than that, he is getting along great.  The trip back to the vet on Monday wore him out and he slept most of the day, but he was happy to see his favorite techs Stacey and Lori.  Today, Zeke’s energy level was better, he went outside a few times to enjoy the sun and he even got on the couch for the first time since surgery!!  Well, actually for the first time in a long time, even before the surgery, he was just in too much pain that it had been awhile since he had joined us on the couch.  I can’t believe it’s been over 2 weeks since the surgery and almost a week since he’s had a pain pill!!!  Here’s to getting better every day….

1 week post-amp!

Zeke had his surgery 1 week ago today and our big boy is doing so well!!  He is getting better and becoming more active (well, for a Bullmastiff!) each day.  He is eating standing up, getting up to follow you more often and his spirits are great!  He continues to amaze me!  He still hesitates going down the few stairs to go outside, but coming back up is much better.  It is still so very surreal to me that we ultimately had to amputate, but seeing that it actually took the pain away is confirmation enough that we made the right decision.  It’s about here & now with our dogs, no regrets.

Welcome Home Zeke!

Our 7 year old male Bullmastiff, Zeke, had his front left leg amputated 5 days ago, due to a joint tumor.  Thank goodness we found tripawds.com a few months ago when we knew this could be a very real possibility.  At first, we couldn’t imagine a large breed dog on 3 legs, but after reading and looking at pictures and video on the website, we knew life on 3 legs would be better than him living with the pain on 4.   He is 5 days post-op and doing great.  He is happy and appears to be pain-free!  He tires easily, but hopefully in time, he will build up his stamina and balance.
